Natural Tree Stump Removal Techniques You Can Try

Do you have an ugly tree stump in your compound, and you would like to remove it? There are numerous options you can consider to get rid of it. One of the effective and quickest ways is to hire a stump removal expert who is experienced in the job. Such professionals employ different methods depending on the task at hand. You may also choose to DIY too, and this post will share different natural stump removal techniques you may consider. Note that these methods take a while, and most of them work effectively when combined.

Controlled burning

This technique involves using fire to burn the tree stump slowly. First, you need to confirm with the local authority regulations to find out if controlled burning is allowed. Then, make sure there is plenty of space around the stump. Drill as many holes as you can in the stump, then insert combustible materials in them. Once everything is in place, you can ignite the fire and monitor the progress throughout. It will take several hours to burn the stump completely, although this depends on the size of the stump.

Digging the stump out

This is one of the traditional stump removal techniques that's still viable to date. It involves digging up the stump manually using a hatched and a shovel. Although it won't cost you much, be prepared to dig. However, if the stump proves to be too hard, probably because it has deep roots, you will be forced to combine multiple techniques or hire a stump removal expert.

Begin by digging around the stump to expose the roots, then cut them as you continue digging deeper. Remove the roots and continue cutting the roots. A pry bar can be used to lift stubborn roots out of the soil. Once you remove the stump, be sure to cover the area with soil so the remaining roots that run deeper can decay. Consider planting a new tree, grass or a flower bed in the space to transform the space.

Using Epsom salt

Epsom salt is effective at killing a tree stump. It's actually one of the easiest and cheapest methods you can consider. All you need to do is drill quarter-inch holes in the stump with a power drill and then place a highly concentrated salt solution in the holes. Keep re-applying the Epsom salt solution after some days to speed up the rotting process. Remember that the rotting process will take several months — the stump will die slowly. You may wrap the stump with a plastic bag to speed up the process.
